Basil seed slime 🌱💙🧜🌱💙🧜 we’re working on something pretty exciting behind the scenes, so for the next couple months i’ll be sharing new slime recipes every week here and on the blog.
first up - this completely edible basil seed slime (that can also be made with chia seeds). i know some of you are not a fan of glue-based slimes, nor the borax or liquid starch you have to add to activate them - so this recipe is for you! and bonus: this safe slime washes away with just water. 🌱💙🧜🌱💙🧜 to make it, you will need:
2 tablespoons basil seeds (find at asian supermarkets)
i was honestly disappointed in this dish and my whole experience here. it looked and sounded fantastic. but it was pretty bland and the edges were very hard; so hard that it was difficult to cut and i didn’t eat it. i also ordered a side of bacon which was about $3 and i got the quick-and-easy-to-heat-in-a-microwave kind of bacon that you’d find at a subway. i expected so much more. the prices on the menu didn’t match their website (the menus were more expensive-when questioned about this, the server said they just hadn’t updated their website prices yet because they were going to redo the whole website). our server was inattentive throughout our meal. i’d love to go back and give them another shot because i’ve heard so many good things but i’m hesitant to based on this experience.
This chick has been by my side through every season of my life. college, love, babies, heartbreak, moves, the tough shit. we fight and sass like we're sisters, but she's been a huge pillar for me in this season of my life. i legit would not be able to get thru it without her. love u lover❤️
I saw this message written on a typical wooden scripted plaque @urbanbarn that one would hang in their home. (i love their stuff, don't you???) at first i thought, "no kidding", and then i thought, "you're never too old to try something new either." this is why "art" is subjective.
so what if you ain't got it all together, that you're flailing along feeling imperfect, struggling to find what you're looking for.
guess what, buttercup?
so are the rest of us!
those who say they have it all together are only fooling themselves. no one does; a perfect life doesn't exist.
but you know what does?
a perfect attitude that aims for joy but settles for less - sometimes - because humans are flawed, imperfect, and real - and s**t happens.
so many people i have talked with have wasted days and months of their life thinking about what people are thinking about them, what they did say, didn't say, did, didn't do - thought, bought, and ate! oh brother!!! let's get analytical about it for a hot minute though: if we are all thinking about what people are thinking about us then no one can be busy thinking about you (enter narcissism) because they are so busy thinking about what you think of them!
so do what you want, dearheart, and try everything. fail hard and fail fast knowing that it's never too late to get your s**t together and tomorrow is a fresh start. (i'm happy to say i bought that d**n plaque and put it in my kids bathroom - where others of similar inspiration hang.) they loved it (i think because i hung it over the toilet.)
☁️ spring g r e y s💨
amidst the seemingly endless stream of photos documenting the most unspringlike weather we’ve had in years, i am conscious — as i dodge slush and maneuver around ice-covered sidewalks, as i curse the wind whipping at my face and grab at my hood as it blows off, again — of how very lucky i am to wake each morning and see another day play out. and, every so often, something as random as a scraggly little tree in the middle of a parking lot will catch my eye and serve as that reminder.
there is beauty all around us — even on the ugliest of days.
i don’t know what made me look over and take notice. but, from a distance, this tree looked almost as though it had been painted on the tarp structure behind it, lending it a quiet, artistic quality, especially with the backdrop of the grey skies. whatever the reason, it made me stop. and pause to take in a deep breath. just for a moment. (because it was too d****d cold to stand around.)
did you hit “pause” today?
Cookies & cream marshmallow squares
all credit for these amazing cookies & cream marshmallow squares goes to my sous chef - miss g!
she originally came up with the idea to make cookies & cream marshmallows, but homemade marshmallows are known to claim the lives of stand mixers so we tweaked her idea to make these instead - and i’m so glad we did.
a simple no-bake recipe kids can make with minimal “interference” - and ready to eat in just an hour! make sure you pour a big glass of milk, too - you’re going to need it! 🍪🥛🍪🥛🍪🥛
to make these, you will need:
4 cups marshmallows
2 tablespoons butter or coconut oil
2 boxes back 2 nature classic creme cookies or double classic cream cookies
1/4 cup white chocolate
1 teaspoon coconut oil, optional
how sweet is this simple handmade card for mother’s day? (or even a special birthday card.) this is a classic card that i’ve made with my daycare babies for years and it’s always so cute how proud they are to show off their creation and proclaim their love for mom when she shows up to pick them up!
kids can make this card with minimal help - and they can customize it by cutting the handprints out of a page of art that they’ve already drawn or painted. 👐 ✂ 💓 👐 ✂ 💓
