In the urban gardening trend, nature conquers even the most unhospitable corners of the city. this urban jungle wall is made of old wooden fruit crates, planted with a mixture of upright and trailing geraniums, summery vines and lettuce. scented and fancy-leaf geraniums round off the jungle feeling perfectly. a stunning eye-catcher as well as a practical, quick & easy privacy screen for a city balcony!
for making the upcycled urban jungle wall you will need the following materials: old fruit crates, potting soil, landscape fabric, a stapler, measuring stick, geraniums and other sun-loving flowers, viny plants and vegetables of your choice.
in the first step, line the fruit crates with waterproof landscape fabric and secure with staples. this will prevent the soil from falling out, while allowing excess water to drain off. now the crates can be neatly stacked and the construction is stabilized by screwing wooden boards to the sides. tip: the width and height of the plant wall can be flexibly adjusted to the space available.
fill the crates with potting soil and plant your choice of trailing and upright geraniums and other plants inside. tip: to get a good urban gardening feeling, combine some of these plants and vegetables with your geraniums: decorative cucumbers, squash or pumpkins, tomatoes, echinacea, various kinds of leafy lettuce, lavender, gentian shrubs or coleus.
