shapeupafrican The struggle to lose weight it so real. i know what i'm talking about, trust me. but i'm all for the idea of not making a drastic 360 degree change. you know why? because this will only take you to your starting point. start by making small changes. i always tell my clients this: do not completely cut out some foods from your diet. try reducing the portions for a start, then replace with healthier alternatives as you go. for example, if you are about to start or are a beginner in weight loss, this cute little bowls right here contain 1/3 unripe plantain and 3 tablespoons of stewed beans. this is half the quantity most people normally eat. i replace the other half with a bowl of salad ๐Ÿฅ— to fill up. note that beans are high in proteins but also relatively high in carbs. one cup of boiled pinto beans (i.e. minus oil, onions, tomatoes and fish or meat) contains 245 calories, 45g of carbs, 15g proteins and 15g of fiber. imagine the calorie and carb content when red oil, and other ingredients are added. so you see that stewed beans already contain most of the nutrients you need so you don't need to add fried plantain, rice or yam? it is nutritive and calorie-dense on its own. but if you must eat stewed beans and plantains or rice, make sure to reduce the portions as pictured and replace the plantains with a less nutrient-dense option like cucumber ๐Ÿฅ’ as you progress in your weight loss journey. for those of you who have already lost a significant amount of weight and have that stomach abdominal fat, see the next post on how to further cut calories further... search and join the supa family for more supa nutrition education. #shapeupafrican #nutrition #education

culinaryhill These copycat chipotle pinto beans are easy to make, inexpensive, and healthy! add to burritos and salads or serve with rice for a tasty vegetarian meal. . ingredients 16 ounces dried pinto beans rinsed and sorted 1 medium yellow onion finely diced 1 tablespoon olive oil or rice bran oil (see notes) 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon oregano 2 cloves garlic minced 1 bay leaf 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce plus 2 teaspoons sauce (see notes) 6 cups water (enough to cover beans) lemon juice lime juice salt and freshly ground black pepper . instructions in a large p*t or dutch oven over medium high heat, heat the oil until shimmering. add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. to the p*t add cumin, oregano, garlic, bay leaf, chipotle chilies, and adobo sauce. add enough water to cover. bring to a boil over medium high heat. reduce heat and simmer until beans are tender, about 2 hours. remove from heat. remove bay leaf and chipotle chilies. stir in lemon and lime juices, and season to taste with salt and pepper.
