Designed as a joint effort with volkswagen, the 1975 porsche 914 was originally supposed to be sold by both brands; the standard 4-cylinder car by vw and the 6-cylinder variant, creatively dubbed the 914/6, by porsche. it was eventually decided that porsche alone should sell both versions. eventually the flat six was replaced by a larger 2.0 version of the flat-four, as is the case with this example. the 2.0, built from ‘72 to ‘76, was fuel injected and produced 100 horsepower. this gave the mid-engined 914 a 0-60 time of 10.5 seconds and a top speed of 120mph. not exactly fast, but then again, this was the so-called poor man’s porsche. it was light, handled well, and continues today to be a unique sports car bargain.
