Since my mom was making herself a cup of tea i asked if she could make me one too. she purposefully picked this mug and waited for me to notice.
.
.
.
i picked this mug out for my mom when i was a little girl, and while i wouldn’t say i’m the world’s greatest mom this mug reminded me how overwhelmingly happy i am to be a mom! this has so far been one of the most difficult and amazing experiences in my life. every day i wake up with a full heart (and full cup of tea)

We try to choose one virtue each month to really learn and practice with the kids. we usually pick something that the kids need especially to work on, and yet each time, about halfway through the month, i realize that *god* has actually chosen this virtue for me to work on. this month’s is self-control. the other day, this full verse appeared in the kids’ prayer book, and i thought it was pretty timely, so i read it to them twice. then later that day, as i was praying alone, i came across it in the blessed is she reflection too. i guess god thought i really needed the message. πŸ˜‰ as i read it again, this time for myself, i realized that self-control was a gift to be prayed for, not a skill to master. i had been trying so hard not to lose my temper with the kids, and then feeling terribly after i let myself rage like the hulk. i had kept thinking the solution was to just try harder, maybe toss up a prayer in the moment. but i see now that what i really need is god’s grace. to spend time with him in prayer asking for all the gifts of the holy spirit, and for this gift of self control in particular. it may seem completely unrelated to my efforts to avoid hulk mom, but somehow god will take my time with him and transform me into the saint he wishes me to be. ............
what gift or fruit of the holy spirit do you need to pray for?

I am beaming with excitement to announce that my very first two designs are live in the shop! πŸŽ‰πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ this design holds a special place in my heart. first of all, bees 🐝 i grew up with hives in our backyard and they remind me of simple beauty and childlike goodness, like jesus calls us back to. it also reminds me that like nature, we are made by god. we are hewn from his image. we were perfectly made with great care by him. to allow our hearts to be anything less than our truest self is doing this world a genuine disservice. and this work is part of who god is calling me to be. thank you for all the kind words and prayers as i get this venture off the ground! there will be so much more in the next few weeks and i am thrilled to be taking this step and being my version of brave + my best self. let me know how you're being brave this week in the comments and let me pray for you!!! | direct link in bio 🐝

Tag someone who needs a hug today :)
πŸ’‘
love language #5: physical touch
πŸ‘«
"of the five senses, touching, unlike the other four, is not limited to one localized area of the body. tiny tactile receptors are located throughout the body. when those receptors are touched or pressed, nerves carry impulses to the brain. πŸ’˜
the brain interprets these impulses and we perceive that the thing that touches us is warm or cold, hard or soft. it causes pain or pleasure. we may also interpret it as loving or hostile."
☺️
physical touch is something that many crave, but few realize that it is a love language that means so much. and let's be honest, sometimes a simple hug can go a long way, so embrace the ones you love today!

A few years ago @thecatholicwoman asked what my favorite thing about being a woman is:β €
β €
my favorite thing about being a woman is discovering i do not have to choose between pursuing my creative dreams as an artist, and raising a family. no woman should be forced to make that choice. β €
β €
government leaders @emmanuelmacron and foundations @gatesfoundation will tell you that being “perfectly” educated and the freedoms to have that choice resides in having access to abortion and sterilization, and that women who choose otherwise must not be educated, and will be part of an impoverished society in today’s world of medical advancements. β €
β €
instead of truly educating a woman about her fertility, and how her cycle is a map of her health (because boy that takes time and resources, and a pill is much more lucrative $$$) it is lauded a freedom to sterilize natural femininity, to suppress that nature of a woman which makes us unique to men. the media compensates for this despairity by “empowering” women to focus on all the ways they are inferior to cosmetically enhanced celebrities, all while telling them they’re “enough” but kids will detract from that. β €
β €
it is viewed a freedom to become like a man, and a freedom to terminate life growing in our wombs, even though suddenly, despite “medical advancements” these foundations turn a blind eye to the fact that these lives are not actually part of a woman’s body, and instead call them elemental terms such as “blobs”, “clumps of cells” and “byproducts of conception” to obscure giving women a true education. β €
β €
no. true freedom in any country is to be allowed to be who you were created to be, and be all of it without suppression, oppression, or exploitation. the original author of the equal rights amendment, alice paul, said, “abortion is the ultimate exploitation of women.” β €
β €
you want to “perfectly educate” women in africa, @emmanuelmacron ? give them the resources to learn about her own body, her fertility, and true academic education, not cancer-causing, child-killing birth control and abortion. that’s not a choice, that’s an exploitation.

"in times of aridity when i am incapable of praying, of practicing virtue, i seek little opportunities, mere trifles, to give pleasure to jesus; for instance a smile, a pleasant word when inclined to be silent and to show weariness. if i find no opportunities, i at least tell him again and again that i love him; that is not difficult and it keeps alive the fire in my heart. even though this fire of love might seem extinct i would still throw little straws upon the embers and i am certain it would rekindle." (st. thérese to céline)
.
i stumbled across this quote today, and, oh my goodness, it was just what i needed. i mentioned it in my stories a few days ago, but i've just felt so dry lately. like thérèse says, i feel incapable of praying and of practicing virtue. but every single today is full of opportunities to show love. and he takes those small things and he makes them all new.
.
i used to sit in this garden and read augustine's treatises on grace. i owe him so much. he lifted a heavy burden i didn't know i was carrying when he told me that i didn't need to strive, to exhaust myself, to beat myself up when i failed. everything is grace.
.
but then my thérèse makes it live in my relationship with god every day. her little way, which always astonishes me anew just when i think i finally understand it, made augustine's rich intellectual teachings become deeply intimate and personal to me. everything is grace. and grace is always there, because god's love is too much to be contained. it must pour out to us. it's his nature. it pours out into each of our small unnoticed acts of love and makes them new and powerful. so today i choose to love him in the smallest ways, with the confidence that he can make the faintest ember into an eternal flame.

"stand fast in the faith and love one another. and don't let our suffering cause you to stumble." -st. perpetua to her brother during their martyrdom at carthage by wild beasts and gladiators. .
.
rome, the eternal city, the shrine of the early christians. walking in the footsteps of apostles and martyrs is a humbling and out-of-body experience. witnessing early christian imagery of our lady, the eucharist, the trinity, the annunciation, and the resurrection in churches and homes buried beneath the city brought tears to my eyes. they loved, lived, and died for these truths.
.
.
would i have the wisdom and fortitude to encourage my brother to stand fast in the face of a brutal death nor let my torture sway his faith? what compelled these christians? what compelled christ? in today's gospel reading, jesus affirms, "there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops. i tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who k**l the body but after that can do no more. . . do not be afraid." luke 12:2-7
as i continue to process my roman pilgrimage, i encourage us all to be not afraid and cling to truth-the truth of christ. a god where all the hairs on our head are accounted for in this life and the next. πŸ’›πŸ•Š

The ins and outs of practicing nfp can be so difficult. sometimes you don’t know whether to laugh or cry at it all (like when its 3 in the morning and you get back into bed after nursing but realize you reeeaaallly need the bathroom, and contemplate whether or not holding it until your allotted testing window time is open ((two hours later))or if you should just bite the bullet and go all the way downstairs where your test sticks are, p*e in a cup, saran wrap the cup, hope you don’t forget to test later, and go back to sleep. #marquette #ugh). this is something that i loathe about nfp, but also kind of love. (say whaaat?!) i love it because it means we have a say in how we manage fertility. this is the lesson the church teaches us that the world fails see: god allows us to co-create with him. he allows us to make choices, sacrifices, and have a hand in prayerfully discerning the size of our families. we get to choose to do the hard stuff (like abstaining and monitoring fertility signs) at times when we’ve prayerfully discerned to postpone or halt pregnancy, but we also are called to do this with open hearts to his will, without sterilizing our love or closing ourselves off completely to life. sometimes this means things look different than we planned, but isn’t this how it goes for everyone? we’re all faced with surprises and disappointments in life, but under the lens of god’s will, all becomes a conduit of grace and joy...even the difficulties and sufferings we experience along the way! what i’ve learned from it all (and continue to learn) is that we can do hard things in order to safeguard the dignity of our sexuality and call to be open to life. opening up your heart to god’s plan while you work on yours brings such great fruit in life! (hello beautiful children whom i love with all my ❀️!) it’s a sure way of coming to understand and respect the true dignity, beauty, and truth of the vocation of marriage and motherhood. god is good!

Become a saint, and do so quickly.
//
st. john paul ii
//
and i will give you a new heart, and put a new spirit within you: and i will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and will give you a heart of flesh.
ezekiel 36:26
//
he will make us saints.
it is his desire. jesus will turn our hearts to hearts of flesh - so holy and brave, like these saints we love. god has a seat in heaven with our name carved into the top, with gorgeous scrollwork, inlaid with gold. it’s waiting for us, his heart’s desire.
let it be so!
st. jpii, our brave friend,
pray for us!
