the thomson gazelle is a very fast and extremely agile antelope species that on a good day can outrun a cheetah, but during the first few hours of its life is probably the most vulnerable baby animal on the plain. this newborn was only a few minutes old when this photo was taken. there didn’t appear to be any predators in the immediate vicinity, but having witnessed a cheetah spotting one from an absolutely incredible distance one morning there was no telling how long it would remain safe.
Zambians are - in general - some of the nicest, kindest, friendliest and merriest people i've ever met around the world! when spending a lot of time with them -especially in the village - i usually end up with a muscle strain in my face from laughter & smiles.. 😊 (and i'm not speaking metaforically!) (not to mention the times when we see each other.. @taonga90 😁😘)

Catch of the day.
little roller just before having a tasty meal.
In one of the villages we visited in north western province, we came up with the idea to make the kids run up and down the road, so we can film them. they made an impromptu running contest of it (naturally) and the news travelled just as fast as the kids ran and - by popular demand - we had to do it in the next village as well.
it has proven to be a good way to gain popularity very fast with the children ( as well as the parents for making them tired..! and with dogs! 🐕)
this is the newborn calf from my previous photo, who has now gained control of its legs and is already confident enough to be standing alone. he/she is barely half-an-hour old, but just a few minutes after this shot was taken was happily trotting alongside its parent as she made her way back to the relative safety of the herd.
first in a mini-series featuring a few of the young animals we saw during our last safari in october, this young topi calf was taking its very first steps just a few minutes after being born. it was a real privilege to witness the tender moment when a mother begins the bonding process with its newborn baby. sadly, many don’t survive very long!
This is victoria falls at the end of dry season: practically it's just a huge fall now (if you are not careful when walking on the edge..) if i'd be slightly more fearless i would have done it myself, but my life instinct is strong.

Worth getting up early for... getting up before sunrise to catch the sunrise on the last day of the holiday made worthwhile by this pre-sunrise reflection of the crescent moon on a perfectly still infinity pool
