Lawrence doing #kicks galore! of course we do this for condtioning as well, but #repetition in general is a necessary part of forming what’s called #musclememory or more accurately #motormemory the term refers to forming memories of how we perform certain #motorfunctions be it #grossmotorskills like bike riding or #striking or #finemotorskills like playing the #piano in each case, the process involves two stages: 1 learning stage where conscious effort is applied to perform the task at hand as desired/instructed, this is when movements are slow and rigid as one is using conscious thought to direct the muscles to perform the task; 2 storing stage which occurs with continuous practice when the motor functions are stored in memory, which is distributed across different areas of the brain. this is why it is crucial that you are taught the technique correctly from beginning so that you don’t end up storing incorrect motor skills. once stored, the memories are quite persistent and can be accessed rapidly and performed on an unconscious level, which is much faster! because motor memories are stored across various areas of the brain, they are very resilient and this is why people who have had traumatic brain injuries resulting in #amnesia still can ride a bike or play the piano. this is also the reason why “bad habits” in #combatsports are hard to break. you can still do it of course, but it will take more effort. make sure that your instructors know what they are doing and teach you properly the first time around so you don’t have to #reboot down the line 😬 ********************************************* #muaythai#thaiboxing#kickboxing#boxing#boxeo#martialarts#artesmarciales#fighting#astoria#longislandcity#queens#nyc
