Last (but not least) picture of cuba 🇨🇺... if you’re planning on going to the beach during your trip, which you should, you already know that varadero is the place to go. on the other hand, you might also hear people say it’s too crowded, too touristy, and that you should skip it for some other 🏖. first of all, there is a reason why it’s popular, so yes, you won’t be the only person there. second of all, unless you’re coming for christmas and nye, it doesn’t need to be crowded at all. unless your budget doesn’t give you the opportunity to stay at one of the many resorts in varadero, or if you’re the kind of people allergic to these 🏨, you’ll see that they are pretty big and basically have their own private 🏖, so chances are to feel more like you’re staying in some private island that in the mediterranean coast in july. now, varadero has one major advantage: it’s only 2 hours away from havana! most people travelling to cuba for less than 2 weeks will visit the western part of the island, which is where varadero is. so, of course there are other gorgeous beaches there, and even some small islands you could choose over this, but it’s going to take you a few more hours to get there, you’ll need to pay a visitor fee to get to some of the islands and there are specific hours to go to and from such islands. it’s a great option if you want to “get off the beaten path” (but it’s not like you won’t find tourists there, there is actually one very popular island that is forbidden to locals so tourists are all you’ll find there), and if you have more time.
if you have decided to go to varadero, here are some tips that might make your stay more enjoyable. #traveltips
1️⃣ ask for a room in the higher floors: they are the best maintained.
2️⃣ if your resort has several dining restaurants, make the reservations as soon as you check in, otherwise you might not get a table. they are pretty small.
3️⃣ save some money staying at casas particulares during your trip so you can splurge on an all inclusive hotel here. it’s worth it.
4️⃣ we stayed at melia varadero. great pool areas, great food and cocktails (the best are at the piano bar). and yes, that’s what the water looks like ⬆️
