Rica-rica or sometimes simply called rica is a type of hot and spicy bumbu (spice mixture) found in manado cuisine of north sulawesi, indonesia. rica-rica uses a lot of chopped or ground red and green chili peppers, bird's eye chili, shallots, garlic, ginger, and a pinch of salt and sugar. all that grounded spices are cooked in coconut oil and mixed with lime leaf, bruised lemongrass and lime juice. in indonesia it is a popular hot and spicy seasoning to prepare meat, seafood or chicken.

#throwback to last month in melbourne. the decor at sukhothai in northcote has barely changed from when it was our local restaurant. gone are the low tables and cushions, and wooden dividers between those sitting in chairs and those sitting on cushions but the chocolate browns and dark reds remain.
