in today's post cdsf coach @mikesirani goes over how to progress loading the squat. the squat is a commonly performed exercise, but because of it's technical and mobility demands it's common to stall and plateau with your squat progress.
_
here you'll learn why how you load the squat when first learning the exercise is crucial for setting you up for success down the road.
_
1. the goblet squat: holding one db in front of your body allows for you to keep a more upright torso when squatting and helps to engage your abs, which can lead to your hips and spine being in a better position when squatting.
_
2. 2-arm front loaded kb squat: if you've outgrown the goblet squat, this progression allows you to progressively load the movement more and has a greater demand for the abs and upper back.
_
3. front squat: for those looking to increase loading of the squat the front squat is the next progression we use at cdsf.
_
4. safety bar squat: the ssb allows you to load the squat more like a traditional back squat, but without the added stress on the shoulder joint for those with a history of shoulder issues or those with high demands on their shoulder during their sport.
