For some, freedom wasn't inherited. for some, freedom was stolen. for some, freedom isn't a privilege.
slavery comes in many forms and with many names. it's slavery nonetheless. in 2016, an estimated 45.8 million people are in some form of modern slavery in 167 countries.
it's wrong. it's vile. it's demonic. and yet it still exists. join me in shining a light on human + s*x trafficking. i am a freedom fighter. are you?
"eve's lament" purposefully sits in the dissonance & tragedy of genesis 3, the story of our fall into sin. it's almost uncomfortably creepy & mournful, but here's the deal: if we never allow ourselves to sit in the ache of the fall, we will never really savor how good the good news hinted at in genesis 3:15 really is:
"...he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”⠀
i've loved focusing in on this song this month. i hope you've been encouraged by the devotional by @gloriafurman & the personal story behind the song too!
next month, we'll look at "he has made a way," a really fun, foot-stomper about the parting of the red sea. 🙌🎉 my friend @tim_keesee wrote the devotional and it's a really cool take! in the meantime, here are the full lyrics to "eve's lament". i kind of hope they creep you out, in a good way 😬 ⠀
i wandered far away with my love ⠀
i feel the tall grass on my legs ⠀
the sun is warm, the birds are singing ⠀
i should’ve run when i had the chance ⠀
verse 2: ⠀
i felt him sliding up beside me
his words they played upon my pride ⠀
i felt the lie wrap all around me ⠀
i let his whisper hypnotize ⠀
did he really say it? why is he keeping you down? ⠀
don’t you want to taste it? freedom without him around? ⠀
don’t you want to know? don’t you want to choose? ⠀
you want it, don’t you? don’t you? ⠀
verse 3: ⠀
i took the fruit of my desire ⠀
sweet the poison in my mouth ⠀
awake, awake the the fall, the fire ⠀
the lie constricts, the curse clamps down ⠀
shame the venom running through my veins ⠀
a curse, a cancer and my death ⠀
and every child of mine, will feel the serpent’s bite ⠀
but one will crush his head ⠀
oh come and crush his head
oh come and crush his head!
crush his head!⠀
Hello! long time no see! i am going to try and be more active on this account. i needed a break because of things going on in my life but i have found that prayer is so important. communication with god is key to success in our trials and hardships. he listens and he cares.
💕 friends are such a gift! i’ve been so grateful to spend the last year or so building up our local creative community with @blushandhoneypaper. if you’ve got some amazing gals in your life, grab em and come on over to the galentine’s day event tomorrow 6-9pm at @thehiveknox. there will be drinks, snacks, and shopping with a dozen local makers who are also sweet lady bosses!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
i admit, i’m a little giddy at the idea of a super girly night tomorrow! let’s do this, ladies! 🥂
A fun iphone snap shot 📱 taken late last year by my good photographer buddy @noeldaganta while we were in miami, florida. ☀️ this photo brings to mind the section of scripture where peter gets out of the boat 🚣♀️ and walks on water to jesus. 🙌🏻🙏🏻
👉🏻let’s take a look at it: “shortly before dawn jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. when the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. ‘it’s a ghost,’ they said, and cried out in fear. but jesus immediately said to them: ‘take courage! it is i. don’t be afraid.’ ‘lord, if it’s you,’ peter replied, ‘tell me to come to you on the water.’ ‘come,’ he said. then peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward jesus. but when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘lord, save me!’ immediately jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘you of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’” (matthew 14:25-31 niv) 🙌🏻🙏🏻
👉🏻this story is amazing and should really speak to us as christians. peter gets blessed with this situation where he gets to walk on water with jesus. that would be such an incredible experience. ✳️notice - peter actually walks on the water while he is focused on jesus as he is walking towards him. peter sinks when he turns his focus away from jesus and toward the winds (the storm). then, of course, jesus immediately reaches a hand out to save peter as he begins to sink in the water. 😕
👉🏻this incredible experience comes to an end because peter stops focusing on jesus and begins to lose faith in the midst of this storm. i can think of far too many times in my life when my faith in the lord was so strong (walk on water kind of faith) and then the enemy brings some type of discouraging distraction (storm) into my path that causes my focus to go from huge faith in jesus, to a feeling of “i can’t do it” and feeling defeated with this new giant/storm in my way. 🙁
👉🏻brothers and sisters in christ, i’m sure we’ve all experienced what i just talked about and likely multiple times. 👉🏻read the rest of this post in the comments section👇🏻
When the son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 and before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats
