Today’s run didn’t go as planned (feeling under he weather still), but only a few miles are better than no miles. i still need to get a 10 miler in this week before my half marathon on sunday 🀷🏼‍♀️ i’ll find a way, i always do. even though i’m probably a little undertrained for this weekend’s race, i’m still super excited for it. good time or bad time, it will still be a blast, because every race teaches me something about myself as a human being and as an athlete, whether i cross the finish line strong or a little less than. plus, i get to run it with one of my most favorite people @gretchbaby πŸ’•
the last few months have been a terrible rollercoaster of emotions and finding balance in life. i’m working on moderation daily. life is all about moderation, scales of gray, rather than all or nothing, and that’s how i’ve lived my life for as long as i can remember, and that’s how i’ve trained. i’ve always trained harder, not smarter and i know this needs to change. i’m learning as i go, and i know i’ll get the hang of it eventually. work in progress here πŸ™‹πŸΌ‍♀️

I’m definitely proud of myself today. mile 1 was brutal, but you never trust a run by the first mile, so i kept on. until mile 5, i was feeling that nagging pain in my left hip so i slowed my pace a little. the slower pace helped a lot but not completely and i still had to stop and stretch out every so often πŸ˜’ my actual pace was probably closer to a 10 min ave including all the time i stopped and stretched, but i’m still ok with that. i got my 10 miler in and i feel alright. @spotify just posted my top plays for the year, so i was able to listen to all my favorite songs while i pushed through the discomfort. ice bath, hot shower, now recovery hot cocoa, and icyhot πŸ‘πŸΌ i’m ready for sunday’s half marathon πŸƒπŸΌ‍β™€οΈπŸ’• .

Oh goodness, this run hurt in so many ways (and way more than a measly 6 miles should hurt πŸ˜–πŸ€¦πŸ»‍♀️). i woke up early this morning feeling sick (still) and bailed on my hot pilates class. so i fell back to sleep until i needed to get up to get to my massage appointment. my one hour, deep tissue massage was incredible and she really worked on my glutes. i felt so relaxed afterward that i came home and took a nap πŸ™ŒπŸΌ after i woke up from my nap, i thought it might be a good idea to get a run in. wrong. i felt all sorts of weird. my b**t literally felt like i had jello for muscles. the massage had ‘turned my muscles off’ and the run felt consistently hard. plus, i should have been drinking water after my massage and i’m pretty sure i didn’t have enough. my left hip has been hurting, too. ugh πŸ˜’ i got some miles in, but they didn’t feel good. oh well, one step closer to being prepared for sunday’s race πŸƒπŸΌ‍β™€οΈπŸ‘πŸΌ

Real talk.
negative self talk has taken a front seat the last month or so and i’m struggling. i’m working on focusing on everyday positives and removing myself from negative situations. negative body image has become a “thing” for me again and i’m having a hard time. i’m working on prioritizing things. running will be at the top of my list again because it gives me a reason to be proud of the person/athlete i am, instead of focusing on the negatives i see when i look in the mirror. i know i’m not alone in feeling this way, but i also know many people don’t speak out about the way they feel either. ugh. “life happens while you’re busy making other plans.”

Deadlifting 152.5 for 3 sets of 6 reps. a new pr for me. after being stuck at 140 for a while, my deadlifts have been consistently going up the last few months. and today didn’t feel like as much of a grind as some of those earlier days at 140 felt like. so what’s changed? well two things actually,

1. i started eating more. why? eating in a slight calorie surplus gives you more energy and allows you to lift more weight. also when your eating is quantifiable and you’re lifting heavier at the same time, most of the weight you put on should be lean mass. there obviously is going to be some unavoidable f*t gain but that’s ok. losing f*t is relatively easier than gaining and keeping that muscle.
2. i’ve stopped fasted training on high intensity days and use pre and intra workout protein and carbs to fuel my workouts. while this is secondary to eating more and i’m not πŸ’―% unsure it isn’t just in the mind, even the slight psychological boost it gives you is a great thing when going for a pr.
these are two things i recommend looking at from a nutrition standpoint if your aim is to gain lean mass and get stronger. if you’re a complete beginner, everyday is pr day of course, so happy days 😬. the abs may be getting covered up but hitting prs is a high i’m enjoying immensely at the moment!

My heart is full and happy after this run. it’s been since august that i’ve ran this kind of mileage and it was a piece of cake. i had a little tightness in my hip that i stopped and stretched out at mile 6 but other than that this run felt amazing. it’s crazy how quickly it comes back once you know your body is physically capable of the distance. mind > matter ♥️ in my last post i kind of dug into how i’ve been feeling lately and what i plan to do to fix it. body image has always been a hard thing for me since i was diagnosed with an ed way back when i was 14. even though i’ve obviously physically recovered, my heart and my mind never fully got over those negative thoughts and the negative self talk still resonates, some times worse than others. running has always saved me from those harsh words i’ve said to myself and this time is no different. i feel a huge sense of relief and accomplishment after today’s run and i know running will only continue to bring me joy. half marathon training now and marathon training starting in less than 6 weeks. my mind and body is so so ready ♥οΈπŸƒπŸ»‍♀️
