This time of the year is when the singapore youth festival takes place, and our performing arts ccas have all worked very hard to put up fantastic performances! we would like to wish all the various performing arts ccas all the best! you can do this! onward and persevere! also, regardless of the results, do know that everyone of us at opss are proud of all of you!
here are some comments from the various performing arts cca leaders about their preparation for the syf:
"practising for syf definitely started off with a rough start. however, i believe that everyone practised really hard to reach this point. despite the blood, sweat and tears with everyone pushing themselves, i hope we can push ourselves past our limit for d-day :)”
-elisha, president of dance club
“participating in syf is a way for us, opdc, to prove our skills and passion in the craft that is drama. we have worked many long and tiring hours. but as the day draws near, we see ourselves change and become stronger and better not only in our craft but also our character.”
-liang jie, president of drama club
“in our 6 solid months of preparation for the syf, the guitar ensemble members all worked very hard towards a common goal: distinction for syf. our cca's motto is 'no pain, no gain'. all of us are all determined to work harder to put up better performances on stage.”
-sarah, president of guitar ensemble
“our choir is made up of a vibrant and enthusiastic bunch of singers who enjoy producing melodious music together. we are currently in the midst of preparing for syf and are working hard!”
-nicole, president of choir
"preparing for syf was never easy, aside from our cca sessions, we also had to stay back for additional hours just to practise our syf pieces. we have been trying to our best to practise individually so that we wouldn’t pull the rest of the band down. not only that, we also practised more as a band to ensure that we all know our parts”
-hui xin, president of wind orchestra
from the 4 practices a week, setting up practice rooms tirelessly, carrying instruments to various performing venues, 3d2n intensive practice band camp, to reaching school at 6.40am this morning. this cohort of quest band has worked tirelessly through blood, sweat and tears to reach this stage.
over the course of the last few months, my confidence in their performance grew bit by bit. you grew from a group of disjointed individuals to a tightly knit collective. the relationships and camaraderie between all the bandies grew. i watched characters growing stronger and more resilient. i saw more of you looking out for each other. watching how all of you grow made everything worthwhile.
i sat in front of the stage to watch you perform the set piece sunny island. it sounded beautiful. you painted pictures of our sunny island singapore with your music. then you played your choice piece, in times of triumph. a sea of emotions went through my head as you performed. there were moments that moved me to tears. when you played your last note on the stage, i felt your triumph. i too, felt triumphant in my heart.
as we wait anxiously for the results to be announced on friday, regardless the outcome, quest band 2017 is already a distinction band to me. for how all of you have grown both musically and in character, you score a distinction in my heart. i couldn't be more proud of every single one of you for sticking together through this tough and fulfilling journey.
i hope all of you forged lasting friendships and have wonderful memories through this journey together, as one quest band family.
meanwhile, although we technically still have speech day to perform for, please hit the books and show everyone that quest band is not only good in music, but we are good with studies as well. believe, strive, persevere and you shall achieve!
love quest band! ding dong! ❤️ #syf#syf2017#questband#syf2017photomoment#sgyouthfest@sgyouthfest

I first knew this poem from singing it at the 2006 choir singapore youth festival (syf), then later in secondary school it was one of the unseen poems in my literature exam.
written by william wordsworth, the choral arrangement initially came from @kellytangmusic. i sang the alto line back then so the rest is roughly made up from what i remember and also my imagination 😛
this is just half of it; full version on youtube (second link in my bio)!
Here's the awards day version of the modern dance club's syf dance
i felt really grateful and happy to be able to perform this piece again with the seniors, to the school and to guests

This is a very emotional experience for me😭. i cried like a lot b4 the actual performance, cried a bit during the performance (while dancing) and cried a lot again after the performance. it was sad that it was kind of the last performance that i would be working with the seniors and i would miss them a lot at that time. also, many of us cried afterwards due to the satisfaction that out hardwork paid offand the experience was worth it!!
when i saw my sec 1 juniors watching us, it reminded me of the time when i was watching my seniors during syf 2017 when i was sec 1. i literally felt like it was yesterday when i was sitting down, watching my seniors and hoping that i would one day be as good as them and perform on such a stage. now that i experienced all that, i felt extremely happy and accomplished that i have become that senior who performs there and is admired by my sec 1 juniors and i will forever remember the feelings and the memories formed on that day✨

At this point, it felt so legit that syf is around the corner and my batch is a part of it. plus, i felt gr8 to be able to showcase to other students in my school what my cca had been working hard to prepare for months
it's a bit late to post this but it's a gr8 memory

This set of singapore stamps were issued in 2016 commemorating the singapore youth festival (syf)
started in 1967 by then president yusof ishak, it celebrates the achievements of youth in various performing disciplines like band, choir, drama , dance etc
sadly , due to the covid-19. syf 2020 is cancelled. hang in there kids! keep practicing!
north spring's pseudo syf performance today as we still continued with our stage rehearsal at syf despite the announcement that syf would be 'deferred'. ironically i made so many mistakes because in the back of my head i knew the teachers were recording and i stressed myself to play super well, resulting in the exact opposite. either way, this whole syf journey with the nsps kids and @marcus_lkl has been amazing. i remember when we thought their sound was too jinglebellsy and thin but then somehow they eventually just matured and picked up all their parts for whatever song whenever super quickly, and were one of those groups that were always so energetic you have to calm them down. i wish the judges couldve been able to see what you worked so hard for to produce for syf, and your parents and families too. no matter, im so proud of you guys (and the amazing magician conductor who always manages to squeeze life out of his choirs). much love, ms dizon.
Nothing has meaning until you give it meaning. believe in yourself and you will definitely grow 😌
Framing: putting thoughts into your prospects mind⠀
in sales, you'll want to “frame” your prospect in a way that gives you the greatest opportunity to communicate the value, benefits, and advantages of your product or service and close the sale when appropriate.
Top 10 takeaways from @growthbeans self awareness festival 2019 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 1) meaningful conversation is about connecting.
communicate: it's all about me.
connecting: it's all about you.
2) 3 levels of conversation.
light disclosure: talk about ourself and the world around you
medium disclosure: beliefs, opinions, feelings and ideas
heavy disclosure: fears/insecurity
3) vulnerability: you start with showing some imperfection
empathy: match the level of emotion with the other person
active listening: listen and give signs of understanding
difficult conversation is the start of meaningful conversation.
4) knowing nothing is something. remind youself that you're nothing. who are you? exclude all the external factors just as jobs, labels, ambitions, etc. really who are you?
5) 3 ways to be mindful to have a more inclusive conversation.
-focus less on interpretation. -observe/be aware of b****y sensations
6) how to to avoid getting scammed?
- when people are scamming you, they want you to make projections.
- people can always fake their gestures and body language.
- just state exactly what is observed
7) if you can't change your situation, change your response about it.
8) make observation based on just what you see. don't make judgement on that person. it makes you more forgiving
9) be open about your problems and keep telling or asking people about it. there will be people who are willing to help you.
10) fear is like your mother trying to protect you from doing crazy things. ignore the fear like how you ignore your mother's advice and just do it.

The horsemen of @fuchunsec with their wonderfully designed costume look really grand on their horse like structures. .
they were swirling in the wind with their clothes, urging their horses to keep up with the herd, zigzagging with each other in their diamond shaped formation. .
very tranquil. really like their performance. full of energy.
