Star wars: the last jedi
oh, wow! how good is this film! here’s my attempt at a short, non-spoilery review. but if you’re sensitive about things, best not to read any further. but beware the comments, i will definitely be heading into major spoiler territory there. :-)
this film is the perfect follow-up to the force awakens. it continues the story well, but in a completely different way. whereas the force awakens was a gentle re-entry into the star wars universe, giving us familiarity, homage and predictability in a straightforward way; the last jedi takes things in new directions, is often unexpected and adds a layer of complexity, whilst still being very star wars. i loved how they developed the characters, particularly kylo ren. the death of carrie fisher hung over my watching of this film, but i was pleased with where general leia’s character went… and she got some great scenes. but i wish there had been more of her. there are some great new characters with rose and dj. it’s a visually stunning film, particularly the salt plains scenes, with some nice nods to the past (ren’s tie-fighter spin). the humour is also pitch-perfect!
a lot of people have been saying this is the best star wars film since the empire strikes back… and i would have to agree.
. . .
Still happy about my popcorn bucket. i didn't eat the popcorn either. that was for my father. i just wanted the bucket.
my favorite part of being able to discuss tlj in dm is getting different perspectives. ones i agree with, ones i don't. so remember that while comments are disabled, i do have my dms open to chat about the film.
