a beloved client of bloomhill cancer care has been acknowledged in the recent queen’s birthday honours list.
mrs jane elizabeth montgomery-hribar from doonan is a recipient of the officer of the order of australia (ao) medal for her work with the architectural and construction industry, government and her work and mentorship with women.
spending many years in canberra sitting on boards and committees and dealing with ministerial councils, she concedes “there was never a dull moment!” her executive roles in the areas of project procurement and industry standards included: service on the australasian procurement and construction council: director, strategic projects, 2012-2015. executive director, 1994-2012. member, building industry modelling (bim) framework working group, 2014-2015.
her citation also notes the following: • facilitated a working group to produce procurement of construction products - a guide to achieving compliance, 2014. • facilitated development of the national code of practice for the construction industry and developed a government framework for sustainable procurement, 2007. • founding member, national association of women in construction, 1995. • executive director, victorian chapter, australian institute of architects, 1980s. • recipient of the crystal vision award, construction and property services industry skills council, 2014.
she stepped down from many of her active roles in 2011 when her first cancer diagnosis was made, although concedes she eventually went back “part time” to assist, and to “keep her mind busy”. then in late 2016 her cancer returned and it was time to retire.
with husband andrew she relocated permanently to their property at doonan. an oncology nurse then told her about bloomhill and it has become her “saving grace”. having the support and advice from her bloomhill nurse is invaluable, and massage and acupuncture helps to relieve discomfort. taking time out and the ability to talk and share with others has helped her mindset. “i can arrive at bloomhill feeling so very lousy and then when i leave i just feel so wonderful again,” she said.
