Here at home with the book club i started. these beautiful ladies practice taiji with me as well 💕 it has been so inspirational to be surrounded by women who want to keep learning and expanding their minds every day.
Amazing news! south korea has banned the importation of dolphins from taiji, japan! this means that dolphins caught in japan's infamous dolphin drive hunts will no longer be accepted into south korea. this is a huge step in cutting off the demand for wild caught dolphins from taiji, and possibly causing japan to capture fewer dolphins. the ministry of environment in south korea announced a revised bill on the protection and management of wildlife, banning all imports of dolphins captured in such a brutal manner. imports will also be restricted if the dolphins were captured in areas where wild populations are either unclear or are in decline.
while this does not mean south korea is phasing out dolphin captivity altogether, this is still a step in the right direction. south korea up until this point was a huge buyer of taiji caught dolphins— with approximately 70% of their dolphins nationwide having come from the dolphin drives. taiji will unfortunately still get big business from russia, china, and various other countries, but cutting off the trade from one country will at least drop the demand for wild caught dolphins and perhaps also influence other countries to do the same.
