Hipster style is evident outside of food and drink establishments. old factory buildings, long abandoned, are turning over into cool loft apartments. signature graffiti, remnants from kids who claimed the empty spaces as their own, remain in hallways and elevator bays. apartments capitalize on the former factory’s structure — exposed steel beams, old brick walls, industrial floors. even the industrial windows have been cleaned, updated with screens and grates, as needed.
hipsters who like to gather friends for pot-luck dinners or bbqs long for kitchen space to cook and entertain. some of these newly renovated buildings offer an open floor plan with a larger, dedicated kitchen area. clean lines, no clutter. the addition of wood and handcrafted items creates warmth and a personal touch in contrast to the original materials carried over from the formerly industrial space. note that you can see the river that fueled the factory (out the window). an ode to the former factory’s past. @fparasecoli#hipsterstyle#globalbrooklyn#upcycle
