lafc beat portland timbers 3-2 last night at banc of california stadium in front of 18,000 fans (open cup record for highest-attendance in quarterfinals stage) to advance to the semifinals of the 2018 u.s. open cup. with the victory, los angeles remain undefeated at home in all competitions and are currently on a 9-game unbeaten streak (7 wins, 2 draws) in mls and open cup play.
carlos vela and marco ureña scored one goal each for lafc, while an own goal from portland defender david guzman helped secure a victory for los angeles. lafc now have scored 8 goals in 3 open cup games, which goes to show how offensive this team plays. tyler miller had another spectacular night as he made some amazing saves to keep his team in the game. miller is having a great season in the goal and has solidified himself as one of the best goalkeepers in mls.
not only does lafc have a 9-game unbeaten streak, they did something no team has been able to do in 14 games: beat portland. timbers were on a 14-game undefeated streak before last night. what’s next for lafc? they will play houston dynamo in the semifinals of the open cup with the date, time and location to be determined later today. great atmosphere, amazing fans and good soccer all came alive last night. one of the best lafc games i have been to. let’s go la!
