from bodybuilding to athletics, the dip in all its' variations is a great way to hit not only the long head of the triceps, but the delts and chest as well. when performing bench dips, play around with how tucked and flared the elbows are, this will allow the lifter to target different portions of the upper body.

It’s not the young athlete’s fault though.

i think we’ve got a misconstrued value system that makes us believe the most jacked guys = the most healthy, high-performing guys.

to me, it seems obvious that all of this could be shown for what it is, yet many of athletes somehow miss the boat on training that transfers to their sport.

here’s what i think athletes of all levels need in order to maximize performance:

1. to sleep 7.5-9 hours a night for over 90% of the days in a year. you can have 40 days of late night studying, partying, or whatever it is you do.

2. to eat according to both energy demands and bodyweight needs of their sport. triathletes should eat differently than powerlifters.

3. to take supplements that optimize natural testosterone, mitochondria functioning, parasympathetic responses, and muscle and nervous system recovery. often these are micronutrients not easily accessed in #2.

4. to train on a program that addresses both internal capacities (body in relation to itself) and external capacities (body in relation to the world around it). all of this in relation to first basic human function, and then the goals of the individual.

5. to have some sort of physical hobby outside of competitive sports. paddle boarding, surfing, rock climbing, hiking, skiing, free-diving, etc.

those are the five non-negotiable portions that i feel punch the most basic ticket to entry into optimal performance.

they are in a particular order, and our premiere service ensures the development of a plan to capitalize on all of this.

I’m a big fan of the inverse curl machine

you’re able to load the hamstrings without overly lengthening the tissue which is great to build tension in the muscle (great for return to running)

the set up allows for a smoother eccentric and concentric phase to the movement as opposed to the ghr or nordic curl. being able to manage the load easily is also a massive plus

if anyone can bust out reps on this thing with no weight, you officially have hams of steel

My previous #training cycle, which lasted well over 3 months, consisted of a 6-day training week: 2 days of #powerlifting, 1-2 days of #strongman, a day of #conditioning work, & a day of general #weighttraining, with #throwing after each workout, & #highlandgames team practice on the weekend. two weeks ago i maxed-out on all my key lifts, then took it easy for a week before embarking on my current training routine. i have styled it after the #louiesimmons/#westsidebarbell training philosophy: aside from a day each dedicated still to strongman, conditioning, & general #strengthtraining, & of course throwing, the core of my #workouts will be two uniquely styled training days. the first is #dynamicday, performing multiple sets of doubles & triples at only 50 - 60% of my 1rm to develop speed. the second core day will be #maximumeffortday, shooting for a #1rm in only partial range versions of the #lifts. today was that day, & i went with above-parallel #safetybar box #squats, 6" board #benchpress, above-the-knee #deadlift lockouts, & seated #logpress lockouts. i plan on doing this routine for about 8 - 10 weeks before once again testing myself, then starting my final prep for this year's #venturastrongestman... if it's not canceled. #fitness #gym #exercise #workout #muscle #strength #health #flawlessfitness #pasadena

last year i did 300 for a 1rm.
i’m moving quick. changed my whole diet a couple of months ago and i’ve never felt so great. i’m also the heaviest i’ve been sitting at 225. i remember when it was hard for me to break 200. i wasn’t gonna compete next year but at the rate i’m going, i’m thinking about it 😈💯💯

This variation of good morning utilizes many methods we incorporate. this breaks up the eccentric concentric phase. making this a safer variation then the standard variation. the pause on the rack before the reversal of the lift is safer on the soft tissue. the reversal of the lift is where the majority of injuries happen. the pause on the rack takes the momentum out of the bar. this variation also utilizes static over come by dynamic. a phenomenal method for developing speed. making this a great variation to gain speed on your pulls.
