🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸 i never thought about the pattern of my mother's baldness before.
i only thought about how it affected me when clumps of her hair fell away in my hands as i gently massaged the gossamer thin strands between my shaking fingers.
washing my mother's hair seemed to me all i could do,
when i could do nothing. my god the appropriateness of it was scary, her fading away her falling away, all that she was &
had once been, was falling away into my hands, strand by strand.
at my beginning, she gave all that she had to me, & now, at her ending, she was again leaving all that she was to me.
i would have said there was a kind of sad magic in it,
if i believed in magic.
then i noticed the pattern of her baldness, thickest where a crown would sit. and my heart sort of leapt & sank at the same time.
she was my queen.
it would have been an honour to call her my mother & my father, for she played both roles, but she was not my father,
she was much much more.
she was my mother, & i am telling you, as long as i live i will swear it down, when a mother is a mother, a true mother,
a mother is not just everything, she is the only thing that matters.
she is more than enough love that any human being
could reasonably cope with.
and that's the type of magic i do

Saving francesca - melina marchetta
it's been a while since francesca has had a good year. and this year is going worse than most - she has no friends at her new school and her mother can't get out of bed. but she hadn't counted on the loyalty of new friends or falling in love.
this is a re-read, and by now i've lost count of how many times i've read it. this book was hugely important to me during my teen years and i'd bring it out whenever i was feeling down and it would make me feel better. anyone else have a book like this?
there are so many beautiful things about this book: francesca's lovely relationship with her little brother, the fierceness and quirkiness of all the girls, the strong bond between francesca and her mother, the silliness of the school camp scene, and the realistic interactions between francesca and her male classmates. i can't think of anything that i don't like about it.
it was published 15 years ago (!) but remains a relevant and wonderful representation of australian high school. marchetta takes the ya genre seriously and in my opinion this is an example of really good, high quality ya. actually, her books are just good books, regardless of the genre.
ps. don't tell my high school boyfriend but will trombal was the real love of my teenage years. 📖
Spilled by @maxgetscurious: how do you find home in food when you lose your family, your faith, and your love for your body? this is the story of how a former evangelical, eating disorder-recovered, out and proud chinese american girl makes her own home, meal after meal, day after day. this is how a girl remembers that she was born a phoenix.
I was reminded today that i should be ready at all times!!! i was leaving breakfast after volunteering today and was randomly asked to be interviewed by the west bloomfield public television" the splash". it was a community segment, that asked random questions to residents. my favorite question was ...."what is something that you want to accomplish by the end of the summer? "
my answer was that i want to complete manuscript for my upcoming book 📚skyrocket your success!
they asked a few questions and they will feature a new question each week for the next few weeks! ☺
this is my friday night! i know i show lots of pretty pictures on here, but i want to be very clear that this right here captures 99.9 percent of my life: no makeup, hair in a messy bun, band tee, and cat that hunts down the first lap he finds.
when i’m not racing from the bookstore to school to photoshoots and appointments, i’m doing work on my laptop and when i can, i work on the couch so my family can see my face before we go to bed.
this is the unsexy truth. this is my story of what it looks like to build a business.
i love every single moment of it, it’s busy, but it’s so fun! i know it’s what i’m meant to do, but my life is any more glamorous that this photo right here because that would be a complete lie.

these words might make up a simple poem to you, but they are a big weight on my heart. how do you decide what’s real? everything in my head is as real as anything outside of it. (*holding back from a long confused girl rant*)
Sometimes being intuitive in this manner and knowing things before they happen...before others have a chance to make sense of what they are feeling and come to the same realization that you came to, so easily...is a gift and sometimes it is a curse... 🍃thank you for reading my work and buying my book.🍃words unspoken is available for purchase through the link in my bio (amazon) or the book depository (with free worldwide delivery )🍃words unspoken is also available through periplus in indonesia and bookurve in malaysia.🍃
