It recently came to my attention that the pronunciation of the word versatile [/-taɪl/] (exile, reptile, style) which i have been using all my life is the british english version. whereas americans — not all of them though — pronounce it versatile [/-təl/] (till, will, phil). this was actually my first time to hear the word pronounced as such. the same difference between british english and american english can be found in other words such as agile, fertile, hostile, mobile, missile. #languages#linguistics#phonetics#words#pronunciation#britishenglish#americanenglish#logophile#lexophile
On the yoga mat this morning for the first time since my wrist surgery for a v modified practice. yoga with daisy, following an @adrienelouise video, and she said something that is so simple, but that i want to copy down and put on my desk.
“you’ve done the hard part already. you’re here.”
so often, in yoga and in writing, just getting to the mat or just sitting down at my desk is the biggest obstacle. once i’m there, i might as well start. my challenge for the rest of this week - join me if you want - is to commit to a time each day to get there. at my desk, pen in hand or scrivener file open (internet off). to do the hard part.
