Fun fact: food from the levantine area (palestine, jordan, lebanon, syria) is actually super healthy, mostly plant-based, and v nutritious!🍲
with this account name you’d think i’d make middle eastern food more often but alas your girl is not about that life😂 not all middle eastern food takes 600 days to make i’m just being extra (but most of the good stuff does), so that’s why i only ever have it when i’m at my mom’s in jordan cuz she’s a pro👏🏻
this is “maftoul” (known as moghrabiya as well) cooked the traditional palestinian way🇵🇸 since many of you asked for the recipe here it is! courtesy of my mama💕
1. chop 6 medium sized onions and place at the bottom of the p*t with a handful of prunes
2. marinate 4 chicken b*****s with caraway (v important), allspice, black pepper, and a bit of cinnamon, then add it to the p*t
3. on low heat, add 2 cups of water and let it cook for 2 hours (🤯)
4. add 2 cans of strained chickpeas + salt and on high heat let it boil for 2 minutes
5. serve with a side of maftoul (aka giant couscous), a side salad (gotta get your serving of veggies) & enjoy!!❤️
Our favourite way to start our day. coconut yogurt with elderberry chia spread topped with #hempseeds and #beepollen fuelling our bodies with great real food helps out immune system thrive all the time! •coconut yogurt also supplies several key vitamins and minerals and can have live and active cultures just like milk-based yogurts. much of the saturated f*t in coconut yogurt is in the form of medium-chain triglycerides, which can help control weight, reduce the risk of atherosclerosis and boost immunity.
“how can i be eating so little, and still gaining weight?”⬅ have you ever felt this way? (or had a client who has?)⠀⠀
🤔what’s the deal? are their bodies broken? or can you actually gain weight from eating too little?⠀⠀
🔄you’ve probably heard the term — the laws of thermodynamics — before. or maybe you’ve heard it as energy balance (“calories in, calories out.”)⠀⠀
🔥thermodynamics is a way to express how energy is used and changed.⠀⠀
⚖and, the truth is… energy balance does determine bodyweight:⠀⠀
•if we absorb more energy than we expend, we gain weight.⠀⠀
•if we absorb less energy than we expend, we lose weight.⠀⠀
👆🏼sure, there are many factors that influence either side of this equation, which can make things feel a little confusing. however, humans do not defy the laws of thermodynamics.⠀⠀
🙅🏽🙅🏼♂️while hormones may influence your weight gain/loss, they still don’t invalidate the energy balance equation.⠀⠀
🧐yet, it is easy to understand why folks get confused about this.⠀⠀
👆🏼one reason why: measuring metabolism is tricky.⠀⠀
⚙it is possible to approximate your basal metabolic rate —the energy cost of keeping you alive. but measurements are only as good as the tools we use.⠀⠀
🎯unless we can precisely measure energy inputs and outputs from minute to minute, we can’t know for sure what your metabolism is doing and how it matches the food you’re eating.
