“you don't see sick animals in the wild. you don't see lame animals in the wild, and its all because of the predator: the lion, the tiger, the leopard, all the cats.” tippi hedren
the lion park resort in gaborone is the only amusement park of its kind in botswana. it’s about 15 minutes away from the capital city and it is the perfect way to spend the day if you have kids. the lion park resort is all three - a theme park, water park and animal park. as the name suggest by itself it has lions.
some of the few interesting activities that this park has to offer is a wave stimulator, the tallest roller coaster in africa, paintball and much more. the rides include a ferris wheel, a small train that takes you around the park, rotating tea-cups, a merry-go-round and a couple more. the only downside to this theme park is that you might end up re-riding the same 10 or so rides because there are not many to choose from. however, be sure to pack a swimsuit so you can enjoy the three water slides, and/or the kiddie water areas.
the lions at the park are kept in a separate enclosure away from the amusement rides. everybody that wants to arrange a tour can do so with a licenced guide, just like we did. however, be prepared to be awed and thrilled by an up-close experience with the kings of the african bush.
one important thing we should tell you here is that the park also features a campsite where you can spend the night. however, we warn you that you will possibly not get enough sleep due to the roaring lions.
