One of the rituals is the 'kannika dhaanam' which literally means giving away your young girl. here, the bride sits in her father's lap and the rituals are performed.

Tamil-brahmin weddings have tons of unique rituals that you would not get to witness otherwise. one of them being this one where balls of red & yellow rice are used to clean the couple's feet in order to cast off the evil eyes!

These days during the sunmukh (daughter-in-law’s first look) ritual, the bride and groom sit with the groom’s mother between them, and the groom’s mother holds a mirror in which each of them can see the other’s face or the bride holds it herself.

The sunmukh (daughter-in-law’s first look) ritual was traditionally introduced so that the mother-in-law first sees the bride’s face and shows it to her son as the bride could be seen only on her wedding day. however, that doesn't happen anymore but the rituals are still performed!
