A gloomy, drizzly saturday at home ๐Ÿ™Œโ›ˆ
the hubs has spent his morning working, but word is he's bringing me tacos soon ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐ŸŒฎ emilie is focused on her macrame project, while i sip tea nearby. and i can hear laughter coming from elliott's room, as the neighborhood boys play boardgames.
i think i'll curl up in bed with a good book, or five, soon ๐Ÿ“š
how's the weather where you are? what are you up to this weekend?

The god who determined the measurements of the foundations of the earth sets limitations to the scope of our work.
it is always tempting to measure ourselves by one another, but this easily leads to boasting or despair.
it is our business to find the sphere of service allotted to us, and do all that he has appointed us to do within that sphere, not “commending ourselves.”
๐Ÿ
paul said, “we will keep to the limits god has apportioned us” (2 cor 10:13). jesus did that–willing to become a helpless, newborn baby, to be a growing child, an adolescent, a man, each stage bounded by its peculiar strictures, yet each offering adequate scope in which to glorify his father.
๐Ÿ
lord, glorify yourself through me and in the place you’ve set me.
let me not covet another’s place or work or glory. -elisabeth elliot ๐Ÿ
happy belated #theologythursdays๐Ÿ“– friends ๐Ÿ™Œ๐ŸŽ‰ better late than never, right?

More often than not, you'll find him learning like this: any and every way other than sitting still and quiet at a desk.
maybe standing, perhaps bouncing on an exercise ball, at times spread across the floor in the middle of various handicrafts and art projects, sometimes pacing the room.
often interjecting relevant facts or ideas, asking multitudes of questions, seeking clarification.
stopping the lesson to flip through a book and share his own findings. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ”
"schooling" takes place on the couch, in the car, snuggled up in bed, high up in the fort, in waiting rooms and doctors offices, friends homes and parks.
recess looks like walking with his sister to the tea house, picking up a coke at the corner gas station, or chasing chickens out back.
and pe is running around the neighborhood, playing nerf wars or hide-and-seek.
what a way to learn and grow. and i catch myself desiring to go back and redo my own childhood in this idyllic way ๐Ÿ’›

Friends, today i am so super excited to be participating in the #natureschoolinginvitationloop with some wonderfully awesome fellow homeschool mamas๐ŸŽ‰ our goal is to share our hearts with you, to show you some of the why behind nature schooling.
so grab a cup of coffee, snuggle up, and visit each feed in this loop โ˜•๏ธ we hope that you will be encouraged, inspired, and excited to incorporate more nature into your own little school. ๐Ÿ„
so why nature school?
because time outdoors is time well spent.
because creation points to and declares the glory of the creator.
because this world teems with science lessons just waiting to be discovered.
because i can feel my shoulders relax and my breathing slow down just a bit each time i step into beauty. ๐Ÿ„
for our family, incorporating nature into our schooling is really just incorporating nature into our lives.
there is no distinction between living and learning.
it's leaving our concrete jungle behind, in favor of tall trees and tent camping.
it's dropping everything for a day at the tide pools or on the trail.
it's sharing meals outdoors and tending to our own garden.
it's pouring over any and every nature guide we can thrift, learning about local trees and plants and wildlife.
it's grabbing a blanket and reading on the grass.
it's marveling at the intricacies of a fallen leaf, the vastness of the night sky, or the flaming colors of a painted sunset.
it's praising and glorifying the lord as we see his creative hand in each and every insect, pebble, and cloud ๐Ÿ™Œ
๐Ÿ„
now it's your turn to share! how do you incorporate nature schooling into your learning? please share below and tag your nature loving friends!
๐Ÿ„

Cloudy, with a (slight) chance of rain ๐ŸŒง
weather like this calls for cuddling up with coffee and a good book.
this one is disciplines of the home, by anne ortland ๐Ÿ’›
emilie is piecing together collages from old magazines while catching up on episodes of wretched and the briefing. jon is playing around with our 3d printer and making fun of my ig photog skills {see my stories for more}. and elliott is running around with the neighborhood boys, just being a kid.
having no plans simply is the best.
what are you up to this weekend?

Hi! it's been so long since i've shown my face around here. i'm danielle. wifey. mama. home educator.
infj. lover of good books, good coffee, and good conversation.
i'm a total non-fiction j****e and i could never pick one favorite read. just give me all the solid theology books. the only time you'll probably ever find me reading fiction, is aloud, to my kids. my top fiction pick thus far is fahrenheit 451. so good.
i love decorating on the cheap and i rearrange the house more often than i wash our sheets ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿคท‍โ™€๏ธ but that's probably more than you needed to know.
i'm a firm believer in giving your loved ones your all and more often than not, that leads to me shutting down by 8pm ๐Ÿ˜ด im still learning to budget my energy.
on the rare ocasion i find myself with an hour alone, i'll most likely turn on a sermon podcast get to cleaning. because i'm that boring. and because there's something magical about cleaning uninterrupted. right?
my current favorite portion of scripture is ezekiel 37:1-10. go read it! i have been so encouraged by meditating on the lord's omnipotence, wisdom, and sovereignty. i've wept my way through those verses more than a few times of late.
okay, your turn โžก๏ธ tell me something about yourself โžก๏ธ whats your myers briggs? how do you spend your me time? what verses have been an encouragement to your heart lately? โฌ…๏ธ i can't wait to learn more about you!

If god promises riches, he first brings poverty.
whom he loves, he disciplines.
whom he exalts, he first casts down.
whom he saves, he first damns.
if he promises life, he first brings death.
god will not build on another man's foundation.
he will not work until we have abandoned our works.
he will not save until we have been brought to see
just how desperate we are;
so that we might see just how strong he is.

Summing up the past month in a few words: mountains/desert/mountains/desert ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒต๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒต
it's been wildly fun and completely exhausting. half of me wants to live out of suitcases forever and the other half never wants to leave home again. such is the life of an adventurous homeboy.
if you need me, you can find me in my pjs, relishing in my tidy, little home, and pouring over a stack of @sunsetmag, toying with the idea of planning an october getaway.
the redwoods? albuquerque's balloon festival? the eastern sierra's for a bit of fall color? or maybe just a lot of naps at home ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคท‍โ™€๏ธ

My typical response: stare back blankly for an uncomfortable amount of time followed by a drawn out "hmmm... that's a good question" ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ“…

What better place to welcome the arrival of fall than under a canopy of trees, cozy sweater on, pine needles under foot, hot coffee in hand?
we, on the other hand, exchanged the mountains for the desert, cozy campfires for palm trees. for our family, fall was welcomed socal style- barbequing poolside ๐Ÿคท‍โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ
how have you celebrated the new season?
